PUPILS got a taste of life in Tudor society when Lammack Primary School, Blackburn, took a trip back to 16th Century England.
All echelons of society, from serving maids right through to courtiers and members of the royal family, were represented as year five pupils and staff dressed in period costume for the day.
With the help of a local historian the children practised writing with quill pens, played popular games of the era, such as skittles, and made pomanders -- a primitive type of deodorant made of an orange spiked with scents.
And for lunch the time-travelling pupils enjoyed a theme menu of King Henry's drumsticks, Globe vegetables and New World potatoes, followed by Anne Boleyn flan.
Head teacher Mary Lewis said: "It was a thoroughly good day and the children have been saying how much they enjoyed it.
"We first did it last year but it was such a success it has become an annual event."
