MANSFIELD School's Under 15 hockey team walked away with joint first prize from the prestigious Lancashire Tournament.
In an event usually dominated by fee-paying schools such as Kirkham and Lancaster Grammar, Mansfield's side outclassed the opposition in every round up to the final where they drew 0-0 with Kirkham, with whom they share the trophy.
PE teacher and coach Lil Davies said the girls had done extremely well. "We are so proud of them," she said. "Usually schools like ours don't get a look in."
The team have also qualified for the quarter finals of the All-England Hockey Cup, which will be played in Middlesex.
The path to the final of the Lancashire Trophy was as follows: beat Lancaster Grammar 2-0, scorers Kayleigh Vickers, Suzanne Waterworth; beat Kirkham 1-0, scorer Dani Atherton; and beat Queen Mary's 4-0, scorers Charlotte Hartley, Julie Portman, Lisa Hardman and Vickers.
