CHORLEY 5 VAUXHALL MOTORS 5 A BIZARRE scoreline to reflect a truly unbelievable game at Victory Park!
Two generous defences ensured a veritable goal-glut for the fans who almost ran out of fingers keeping the score.
Kevin Lynch got the scoreboard moving with Vauxhall's 17th minute opener, but Neil Mitchell headed Chorley level when keeper Holmes completely missed Mike Wallace's corner. Nicky Young profited from a Simon Marsh error to restore the visitors' lead, and on the stroke of half time Wallace netted direct from a corner, only for the referee to rule it out for a foul on Holmes.
The floodgates really opened in the second half. Danny Mills volleyed a wonderful equaliser for Chorley from a Wallace cross, only for Young to hit straight back for Vauxhall. Mills made it 3-3 after more woeful defending and Vauxhall were overtaken for the first time in the 67th minute.
Holmes, who had a dreadful game, dropped another Wallace cross and Mitchell calmly stroked Chorley into the lead.
Young then completed a hat-trick, despite looking yards offside, to again tie things up at 4-4. With time running out, Mills claimed the night's second hat-trick and his 22nd goal of the season, firing in off Holmes' despairing dive. However, in stoppage time Vauxhall completed a freakish evening, substitute Hart scoring the game's 10th and final goal.
