RADIO Lancashire's comic duo of Jim Bowen and Sally Naden are "taking to the boards" this week as stars of a revue they have devised for the theatre.

The Happy Dafters appear in A Springtime Revue of Farmyard Frolics at Blackpool Grand Theatre tonight (Thursday).

And The Citizen was invited to sit in on the action at the radio station's HQ to get a sneak preview of what's in store.

The idea for Farmyard Frolics started off as Give It A Go on the radio and the response was amazing, said Jim and co-presenter Sally as they took a moment off air on Monday.

"It's like one big family here and our listeners feel very much part of it. And the audience has increased by seven times since we began.

"We've had trumpet players, singers, comedians coming in -- you name it! And it got bigger and bigger so we thought why not take it to the theatre?"

And just on Monday morning, Jim and Sal were entertained by a few talented Fylde folk with Kelda Rodgerson, aged 15 from Kirkham Grammar, stepping up to the mike to sing I Dreamed A Dream from the hit musical Les Miserables, plus Betty Berry and Pat Coward from the Preston and Blackpool Cat Club.

"It's our coral anniversary for the cat show this year," said Blackpool-based Betty. "We'll be at the Norcalympia, the Norbreck Hotel, on Saturday with more than 50 breeds so we'd welcome everyone along from 12.30pm."

Farmyard Frolics at Blackpool Grand Theatre is a two-hour revue which includes a barbershop quartet, a few moves from Blackpool's The Dance Place, quizzes, sketches and who knows what else!

"It's loosely scripted but we could end up going anywhere with it," said Sally. "But it will be a lot of fun."

Tickets for the show at £8 are available from the box office on 290190 with proceeds going to the Macmillan Windmill Appeal.
