THE remains of a soldier's body, discovered 85 years after he was killed, are that of Bury Fusilier Private Harry Wilkinson, it has been revealed.
Forensic tests on the well preserved skeleton have confirmed the identity of the soldier who was killed in action in Flanders during the First World War.
When the body was discovered in January last year, a rusty military identification tag featuring Pte Wilkinson's number was found. But the MoD chiefs ordered a forensic examination to confirm the skeleton's identity.
Pte Wilkinson's body will be laid to rest in a Belgium war cemetery later this year.
