AN inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of a six-year-old Bury boy who died after a collision with an articulated lorry unit.
The hearing was told that Shoaib Aftab, a pupil at Fishpool Infants School, had been walking with a friend a little ahead of his mother Mrs Tabasum Aftab when he reached the junction of Parkhills Road and Wellington Road and was crossing Killon Street, a side road, last Friday.
Coroner's officer Mr Geoff Cave said it appeared an articulated unit without a trailer, driven by Mr Ian Crompton aged 50, of Walshaw Road, Bury, had crossed a mini-roundabout into Killon Street.
Mr Cave said Shoaib of Benson Street, Bury, had run from the pavement into the side of the moving unit and had fallen under a back wheel.
