Bamber Bridge Blyth Spartans 3
BLYTH picked up three points aided and abetted by a poor performance by Brig at Irongate.
The visitors benefited from a highly-debateable penalty decision as well as some sloppy defensive play.
Five minutes in to the first half, Phil Robinson get himself in to the box before getting in a tangle. Steve Stewart pounced to stick the ball in the back of the net from close range.
After the goal, Bamber Bridge picked themselves up with Servet Tasdemir produced a good 35-yard drive only to be saved by keeper Terry Burke.
Brig's persistence finally paid off when Whittaker poached a goal after charging down a Burke clearance.
In the second half, Blyth came under fire with Whittaker hitting the post and a good attempt scrambled off the line.
Yet, Blyth weathered the storm to snatch two goals in as many minutes to seal the match.
Glen Robson latched on to a sloppy back pass from Simon Woodward before being tumbled in the penalty box by an innocuous challenge by Dave McCann.
