Lytham 1st XI 1 Wigan 1

AS the hockey season comes to a close LSA turned in a below average performance against the Northern League Division One winners yet still managed to gain a point.

LSA dominated the play for periods and created several chances to no avail.

There was little improvement in the second half and Wigan scored early on.

Daffyd Jones, in the LSA goal, made a fine save from a penalty stroke and that seemed to wake the side up. They scored an equaliser following a great run by Craig Nuttall following a good save from the keeper. However, Chris Hadley was there to put the rebound beyond doubt.

Time ran out with LSA desperately trying for a win, and now they face Disley next week in their last match of the season.

Special mention should be made of a fine performance from the LSA centre back Mark Lees who made several superb tackles when Wigan were clear on the break with only him to beat.

Lytham 2nd XI 1 Congleton 4

JUST like the first XI LSA were playing the league winners.

However, they started well gaining a penalty corner, but within 10 minutes they were two goals down after giving the ball away in midfield and poor defending at a penalty corner.

However, LSA fought back and were rewarded by a goal from their captain Graham Stuart.

This, in his own words, not the reporter was "his first in living memory." Poor defensive tackling let Congleton score two more before half-time giving them the final score of 4-1.

In the second half LSA really played well. Matt Greenhill once again was prominent but lacked the vital finishing touch. Congleton to their credit, having scored 100 goals this season, also defended well and prevented LSA from further goals.
