ANGRY residents feel they are banging their heads against a brick wall trying to get Blackpool Council to do something about a vandalised wooden fence.
Homeowners at Greenway, off Highfield Road, Marton, are fed up with the state of the fence which they say teenage terrors keep kicking down.
And they're demanding that the council fork out for a yob-resistant metal fence instead.
Nigel Bilsby, 30, who lives on Greenway, said he had not been able to find out who was really responsible for the fence.
"We are just getting sick and tired of banging our heads against a brick wall," he said. "There's about a third of the fence left and we look right on to it.
"The council did put a new wooden fence up and it was kicked down again. It's getting to the stage where it looks like something out of a Sarajevo bomb site!"
Angry neighbour Julie Savage agreed. She said: "Everybody says it's an eyesore. It's annoying that you can't really get anywhere when you phone up the council. They are just wasting the tax payers' money by putting a wooden fence up. We look out on to a metal fence and that has not been touched."
Julie says her hopes of living in a "nice" neighbourhood are being shattered by the on-going vandalism. "We have been here about 12 months. We moved from a problem area to come here thinking that it was a nice residential area."
She blamed youngsters meeting up and drinking in the hollow for smashing up the fence. Graham Sharrock, head of operational services for the council, confirmed it was the council's responsibility to maintain the fence.
He said he understood it had been put in place to stop people wandering or falling into the landscaped dip, which doubles as a drainage area for surface water.
He said: "We erected the wooden fence in keeping with the surroundings. Unfortunately it got vandalised and the vandalism round there is such that we are a bit loathe to put up a similar fence."
A metal fence was definitely out of the question because of the cost, he added. Instead, there are plans to replace the vertical slats with a third horizontal bar in the middle of the fence.
