HEATON Park Golf Club members are pushing for an early meeting with Manchester City Council and Playgolf to resolve the row over season tickets.
In a move to make the course even more of a municipal facility, seven-day season tickets, giving holders preferential tee-off times at weekends, have been scrapped in favour of five-day tickets -- and the Heaton Park members are up in arms.
They still get special use of the tees between 12 noon and 2pm on Saturdays and 8am and 10am on Tuesdays, and the members and Playgolf and the council aren't a milion miles apart.
In fact, Heaton Park Golf Club vice-president, Ken Liptrot, says: "Playgolf did improve the quality of the course when they took over the franchise five years ago.
"We, as members, are trying to set standards too, not just for ourselves, but for anyone who gains benefit from the golf course.
"What they have got to realise is that there are club members as well as the general public and we would like to help by educating the public on golf etiquette etc when they come to play on a course like Heaton Park."
"We want to get around the table with Playgolf and Manchester City Council and try to resolve this matter and we are currently waiting for a date for such a meeting.
"We are hoping it will take place in the next fortnight," added Mr Liptrot.
