BURY Mayor Coun Bill Johnson enjoyed a hearty breakfast and helped those less fortunate.
To mark International Fair Trade Week, Bury United Reformed Church laid of a feast made from food produced without exploiting the workers of poor countries.
Fair trade food, which can now be bought from a variety of supermarkets and charity shops are produced by firms which pay workers a decent wage to help them escape the poverty trap.
The minister of the Rochdale Road-based church, the Rev Ruth Wollaston, said: "The event was very successful and in just a matter of one-and-half-hours in which the breakfast was served we raised £70."
More than 25 people stopped in for breakfast at the church.
"I think many of the visitors were very surprised at the variety of food produced by fair-trade firms. Many were familiar with the coffee and teas that were available but not the other foodstuffs.
"We were also pleased to welcome a representative from Tesco's who brought a number of items along to show the guests."
The money raised will go to the Christian-based charity, Commitment for Life which runs projects in Bangladesh.
