GREAT HARWOOD 0 PRESCOT CABLES 1 GREAT Harwood couldn't repeat last week's 2-0 victory over Prescot Cables, going down to yet another last minute goal.
Last Wednesday, Denis Underwood's side beat the Merseysiders 2-0 at their place but a last minute winner stole the points last night.
Harwood now have 12 games to catch third-from-bottom Cheadle Town, who are four points clear but have played five games more, to escape relegation.
Manager Underwood said: "I believe we can catch them. If you'd asked me 10 games ago I wouldn't have been so sure but the way we are playing at the moment I am very confident."
Harwood have lost points from last minute goals in several games over the last few weeks.
The were knocked out of the Worthington Challenge Trophy by Kidsgrove, who scored with 97 minutes on the clock. Kidsgrove again got a last minute goal in the league game between the two sides just days later, to grab a point, and again last night.
Harwood goalkeeper Russell Whalley had pulled off a number of fantastic saves to keep the game at 0-0 but could do nothing about the goal, a 20-yard piledriver which took a wicked deflection off Warren Peake to leave Whalley stranded.
"I couldn't believe it happened again. But the Prescot manager said afterwards he couldn't believe we were down where we are. But we are down there because of the poor start we had."
Harwood's James Toonan and John Riley had first half chances.
In the second half Shaun Bursnell, Richard Fogarty and Paul Walker had chances but couldn't find a breakthrough.
For the final 10 minutes Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman, ironically playing on his home ground, came on for Prescot who he is helping out because of injury problems.
Great Harwood are set to play Kidsgrove again in NWCL Division One tomorrow (kick off 1pm).
"They have got a few good results recently which have put them right up there but they won't relish coming to play us again."
