TWO Bury men have been arrested following a nationwide operation to stop meat allegedly unfit for human consumption re-entering the food chain.
The pair, believed to be a father and son from the Walmersley area, were among 16 people who were detained by police yesterday morning following dawn raids on a number of business addresses in Derbyshire, Northampton, Buckinghamshire, West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester.
Police have not revealed the names of the two Bury men or the business where they were arrested.
They were last night being questioned in connection with the discovery of two-and-a-half tonnes of meat which the Food Standards Agency suspects was destined for illegal sale.
