A FATHER and son from Bury were arrested following a probe into unfit food.
Brian Davies (61) and his son, also called Brian, were detained on Thursday morning (March 22) after police and health officials swooped on their B Davies and Son factory in Bright Street, Bury.
The factory has been in business for the last 15 years and employs five staff, supplying fresh poultry and tinned goods to local businesses.
Paperwork was also seized from the firm which is known as the Travelling Pig.
Across the country 19 people were arrested as part of four-month investigation into claims that chicken intended for pet food was sold to butchers.
The father and son were taken to Bury police after the raid and have been bailed for three months.
Premises in Derbyshire, Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, and West Yorkshire were also raided in connection with the discovery of two and a half tonnes of meat which the Foods Standard Agency (FSA) suspect had been destined for illegal sale into the human food chain.
A spokesman for the FSA said: "We cannot be sure what public health risks there may have been from this alleged trade."
Neither Mr Davies nor his son were available to comment on the raid.
