ICAN'T comment on the crime figures for the rest of the country, but if those of Councillor Pearson (Letters, March 5) are correct and 28 out of 100 people will be victims of a serious crime, then Jack Straw has at least made his own constituency one of the safest in the land.
The figures, according to Coun Pearson, would indicate there would be at least 100 victims of serious crime in Blackburn every day and as far as I can ascertain there is only an average of three.
Perhaps that is why Councillor Ashley Whalley felt it was safe to cut the budget for street lighting.
