A CONTROVERSIAL decision between referee and assistant played a large part in Atherton Colls' home 5-2 defeat by Abbey Hey.
The visitors took the lead in the first minute but a succession of a dozen corners paid off for Colls when Ian Gibson got an equaliser.
Carlos Meakin's effort appeared to go in the top corner and out at the back of the net. The referee initially gave a goal then consulted his assistant and the decision was changed to a goalkick. The visitors went on a goal spree and Alder House press secretary Paul Gregory said: "It was one of the strangest decisions we've ever seen. If that had stood we were 2-1 up and with all the pressure we had put on it could have been a totally different game."
