I AM writing to comment on St Helens public transport. Since Arriva took over, we got new buses that were warm, comfortable and easy to access. But can we speak so highly of some of the drivers?.
They moved the terminus at Sutton and opened the new bus station, yet some drivers still park up at this bus stop, put their feet up, read papers, do crosswords and leave people standing in bad weather at the station.
On once occasion I was waiting at the terminus for the 14.38 bus on a Wednesday. As usual, it was late. When he did pull round did he stop? Did he hell! He went through the stop sign at great speed.
A young lady stood with me, went to step forward to board the bus. The bus missed the kerb with inches. If she had been further forward she would have been hit.
To make things worse he pulled up at the exit of the terminus only to stop his engine and get down on the disabled seats to have a sleep, occasionally looking towards the bus stop. So what was to be the 14.38 turned into the 14.52. He then travelled round the terminus back to the bus stop.
Come on Arriva, sort these people out.
