DEREK Rushton was left with egg on his face after being caught working while claiming incapacity benefits.
Blackburn magistrates heard that Rushton went to work on an egg farm and was paid with the occasional tray of eggs.
But his payment in kind resulted in an overpayment of £1,260, which he is now paying back to the Department of Social Security.
Rushton, 58, of Bold Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to making a false statement to obtain benefit.
He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £75.
Michael Singleton, prosecuting, said Rushton had been receiving benefits since 1997.
He said evidence was available that Rushton had been working at Petre Eggs Limited, Whalley Road, Blackburn.
"When questioned he said he had been working not for payment but only for eggs," said Mr Singleton.
Adrian Williams, defending, said Rushton had helped with various tasks at the egg farm.
