THE son of a pensioner seriously injured in a road accident at the weekend today appealed for witnesses to the incident to come forward.
Chris Barnes' 67-year-old dad James suffered serious injuries to both of his legs when he was knocked off his scooter in Broadfield Road, Oswaldtwistle, shortly before 4pm on Saturday. Initial reports of head injuries have since proved unfounded.
Chris, of Manchester Road, Accrington, has paid regular bedside visits to Royal Preston Hospital where Mr Barnes was taken, with younger brother Mark and their mother Beryl.
Chris described his father's condition as "comfortable and satisfactory." He said: "Close family are going up there regularly and my father is sitting up now and talking. We would all like to thank the emergency services, especially Accrington traffic division, Blackburn ambulance and the air ambulance, who took him to Preston, and we would like to appeal for witnesses to come forward."
