RETIRED Colonel Ted Ashley is publishing a booklet to commemorate all those from Chipping and Whitewell areas who died in the 1914-18, 1939-45 and Korean Wars.
Mr Ashley is trying to trace family details or local background on three Whitewell soldiers: Private George Ashbourne of the 11th Battalion, the Cheshire Regiment who died on June 10 1917 and is buried in France; Private John Carr, who served in the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards and was killed in action on October 14 1917 and buried at Flanders; and Joseph Garner, of whom very little is known.
He may have been with the Royal Garrison Artillery or Royal Field Artillery, possibly the Manchester Regiment. If anyone can help please contact Ted Ashley on 01995 61523.
