CLITHEROE officials were today checking the record books after a crushing 13-0 win over Cheadle last night.
The Blues produced a sensational second half blitz but just failed to break the North West Counties League record which stands at 14-2
Officials believe it could well equal the club record but they were spending today checking.
Amazingly Dave Burgess' men, challenging for the Division One title, were only 2-0 up at the break.
But they smashed home another 11 goals in 38 second half minutes.
Hot shot Neil Spencer scored a hat-trick along with defender Mark 'Pyscho' Stewart.
Dennis Hill (2), Chris Whittingham, skipper Barry Hart, Gary Jackson, Lee Cryer and an own goal made it a lucky 13.
Burgess said: "It was just amazing and we believe it stands as a record win for the club.
"One guy said afterwards the he had been coming on since the 1930s and the biggest he could remember was 12-0. Someone else thinks it equals the highest ever but one thing's for certain the record books are going to take a bit of checking.
"Unfortunately you only get three points for it!"
