BLACKBURN boss Graeme Souness is planning a summer swoop for Tranmere Rovers star Jason Koumas if Rovers get promoted.
Ewood chief executive John Williams today admitted Souness is a big fan of the midfield ace.
And, if Souness can steer the club back into the top-flight, then Rovers will lead the chase to tempt the 21-year-old away from Prenton Park.
"He's a player who, undeniably, has interested Graeme and he likes him very much," said Williams.
"We have never made a bid for him but I wouldn't rule out that he's a player Graeme might be interested in if he was to become available.
"However, there's no intention to proceed with anything at the moment because, firstly, we can't.
"And, secondly, we don't what division we are going to be in next season which could affect our thinking.
"But Graeme has watched him on a number of occasions and has liked what he has seen."
Koumas is rated as one of the hottest properties outside the Premiership but if Rovers do make a move for him they could face stiff competition.
A host of clubs, including the likes of Fulham and Everton, have already been linked with him.
But Mark Hughes could yet play a crucial part in tempting him to Ewood as the player is currently weighing up the possibility of an international career with Wales.
