A MAN who failed to attend probation and community sentence orders was given one last chance by a judge yesterday.

Kevin Swain had been given a combination order of 12 months probation and 80 hours community service for causing grievous bodily harm to a friend.

But a court was told that he had failed to attend probation and community service appointments on two occasions without a reasonable excuse being tendered.

Yesterday Swain, aged 19, of Central Drive, Bury, appeared at Bolton Crown Court for sentence.

But Judge William Morris gave him one last chance to avoid being sent to custody and sentenced him to 100 hours community service.

But he warned Swain that he was reserving the case to himself and that if he did not complete the order this time he would almost certainly be sent to a Young Offenders' Institution.

The court was told that Swain had hit a friend who he had attended a party with in Derwent Drive in Bury in May last year.

Victim Simon Reville was left with a broken nose, two black eyes, cuts and bruising and he also lost a crown from one of his teeth.

When arrested by police Swain said he was sorry and accepted that his kicking of Reville had gone beyond self-defence.

Swain admitted he had not yet paid anything towards a £500 compensation award to his victim and that he owed more than £1,000 in fines.
