POLICE will mix with pub and club-goers on Saturday night to try to identify a masked man who subjected a teenager to an "horrendous" sex attack in Rawtenstall.

The 16-year-old had been in the town centre and was walking home on Longholme Road near to Focus Do-It All on Bocholt Way when she was approached from behind by a man who dragged her into a rear yard of shop premises on Bacup Road and indecently assaulted her.

Det Sgt Stuart Barlow said: "There will be police in the area of the attack on Saturday night speaking to pub customers and clubbers to see if they saw anything.

"There are also restaurants in that area and taxis."

The man is described as white, approximately 5ft 9ins, is believed to have spoken with a local accent and wore a black bubble jacket and had a black balaclava. He was seen at about 11.45pm on Bacup Road walking from the traffic light junction with Queens Square Roundabout.

His hair is dark and possibly thinning on top.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Rawtenstall CID on 01706 237442.
