SUPPORT us or lose us -- that's the message from Clitheroe Chairman Steve Rush.
Rush was disappointed as, after a superb FA Vase run which ended at the semi-final stage at Shawbridge on Saturday, only 120 people turned out on Tuesday night for their league game against Cheadle.
Those that did brave the elements, however, were treated to a goal feast -- as Clitheroe scored 13 goals, equalling their 124-year-old club record.
The Blues are in action at Shawbridge tonight against fellow promotion contenders Fleetwood Freeport as they continue their bid to be crowned champions of the NWCL Division One.
And Rush is now praying more people start coming through the turnstiles again so that Clitheroe can continue their title push -- and, if they gain promotion, sustain their place in the UniBond League next season.
"After the FA Vase, we thought about 200-250 people would come against Cheadle so we were disappointed when there was just 120 turned up, especially as we are a championship-chasing side," admitted Rush.
"We were hoping we could sustain a 200 base for each home game to the end of the season.
"They bring in the revenue so we can keep this successful team together.
"Without them we will have to sit down at the end of the season and think about our future.
"We may have to reassess the budget which could mean cutting wages and therefore losing players.
"That would be disappointing as this is the strongest team we have had in years and we are capable of winning the league.
"We are part of the Clitheroe community and we are just asking them to give Clitheroe FC a go."
And manager Dave Burgess echoed this, saying bums on seats also helps the players. "They love playing in front of a crowd. It really gets them going and the fans are not only important for money but for their support.
"We are an ambitious club, we're unbeaten since January in the league and this is a huge game."
The cost for tonight's game is £3.50 for adults and £2 for oap's and juniors. Kick off is 7.45pm.
