TRAFFIC police will be out with a 20ft-long trailer on the A59 at Bracewell tomorrow, as part of a motor cycle safety campaign.

The Pennine Police road safety unit is backing a national DETR initiative targeting both young riders on scooters and the so-called 'born again' motorcyclists who go back to riding high powered machines in middle age.

The campaign was launched at Lancashire Cricket Club with speakers including Lancashire's Chief Constable Pauline Clare.

In East Lancs, the advertising trailer will be on the A59 from 9am-5pm tomorrow, outside Boots in Burnley town centre on Monday and Tuesday and outside Woolworths, Nelson, on Wednesday.

Inspector Dave Shepherd, said: "The campaign is aimed at encouraging motor cyclists to improve their riding skills.

"Locally, we will use a range of techniques, including both education and enforcement, to achieve this aim.

"We will have the advertising trailer touring the division and mobile displays at colleges throughout Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale.

"We will also visite motor cycle dealers to give them literature onmotor cycle safety, which they can forward to customers.

"We will also be targeting motor cycle clubs to get the road safety message across."

He added that local police would be monitoring accident 'hot spot' areas and would deal firmly with any riders caught breaking the law.
