A LANCASTER street is being taken over by private landlords setting up students flats, local residents have claimed.
More than 20 people living on Golgotha Road have signed a petition objecting to plans for the extension of one house on the street.
They say the growing number of students in the area is causing a number of problems, including;
Difficulty in parking. with as many as six cars parked in the street for each multiple occupancy house, meaning disabled residents have to park further afield.
Buses are cramped as they also take students to the university.
Drunken students disrupt the peace and quiet on the street when leaving the student bar late at night.
Even postal deliveries are delayed because the houses in multiple occupancy generate so much mail.
The residents wrote: "Golgotha Road was designed as family properties, people chose to live here because of the mixed age range of the families and the proximity to the park schools and other amenities.
"As the Government has stated that students do not pay council tax or rate, then the landlords who often have several houses rented out should do what other business people have to do, pay business rates.
"On this road are four disabled people, who have to consider whether going about their daily lives is worth it, when unable to access any parking within a three road area."
"Because the number three and number four have been designated student buses, the disabled seats are taken up with students from the university."
