A LANCASTER nightclub manager is to be one of the first people to voyage from Morecambe to Blackpool by jetski!
Dave Jones is general manager of Lancaster's Liquid nightclub and will be one of around 15 people attempting the 34-mile round trip for charity.
The expedition will begin at 9am on April 7 when the hardy mariners set off from the Morecambe Battery on the morning tide. The outbound journey is expected to take about one and a half hours leaving time for a short break in Blackpool before returning to Morecambe on the afternoon tide for around 3pm.
Dave Jones said: "It will be quite an arduous trip, especially if the wind is against us, but I have been spending some time at the gym and I should be fit by then! We've got a jetski on display at the club to try and raise more sponsorship money - I hope that lots of the club' customers and staff will be there to wave me off!"
The trip is being sponsored by Liquid who have paid for all the necessary fuel. Sponsorship money raised by the jetskiers will be split between three charities including the RLNI, Breast Cancer Awareness and Blackpool's Baby Care Unit.
Martin Davies of Morecambe Jet Ski Centre has organised the outing and he said: "I wanted to do something which would raise the profile of jet skiing and raise money for charity. When I found out that this journey had never been attempted before I thought it would be good fun. If this event is successful I want to run a bigger one in the summer."
The jet skiers will be accompanied by support boats and are working closely with the RLNI to ensure the safety of participants.
