Elderly people around the county are being encouraged to claim the full benefits they deserve.
Lancashire Council's Welfare Rights Service and seven district councils were involved in the annual exercise to increase the take-up rent and rate rebates and reductions.
Housing benefits and council tax records were used to co-ordinate a mailshot to potential applicants, inviting them to fill out their details on a coupon to receive an income support claim pack through the post.
Over half claimants were successful, gaining an average weekly payout of £11.71, after the exercise the number of claims rose by 35% in 2000.
Chairman of Lancashire's Welfare Rights and Social Inclusion Sub-Committee, County Councillor Frank McKenna said: "Boosting peoples income benefits everyone - those getting the benefits in their pockets and the local economy when they spend the extra income."
