PRINCE Charles hosted a reception for The Abbeyfield Society who provide security and companionship for the elderly all over the country.

The prince, who is patron, hosted the event at St James Palace in London, where he met representatives from all the societies, including vice chairman of the Leigh society, Audrey Bent.

Abbeyfield provides security and friendship for the old in small households. The residents have their own rooms, furnished as they wish. The privacy of each resident's room is respected but visits from relatives friends and neighbours are encouraged.

The Leigh Abbeyfield Society maintains two adjoining residences set in a walled garden in Bond Street and provides sheltered accommodation for 20 people.
