ADVENTURER Michelle Andrews will sleep in rain forests and delve deep around a coral reef as she embarks on the experience of a lifetime.
But this weekend she'll be engrossed in the world of kings and pawns rather than creepy crawlies and prawns, as she throws out a chess challenge in preparation for a Raleigh International expedition to Belize.
Prince's Trust volunteer Michelle, from Westleigh, needs to raise £1,000 for her voluntary work in Central America where she will be participating in projects to help establish better facilities.
The former Leigh CE and Hesketh Fletcher High pupil explained: "It will mean working in a run down slum area where people are deprived of even basic amenities like toilets and hospitals.
"That entails sleeping in the rain forest for three to four weeks. Another project is monitoring the second largest barrier reef in the world for damaged coral, working alongside marine biologists and environmental scientists."
Anyone who would like to back Michelle's venture is invited to take part in a prize chess tournament tomorrow (Saturday, 1pm - 5pm) upstairs at The Courts Hotel, Church Street, Leigh.
Entry fee is £5 per head and contestants should register at The Courts between 12.30 and 1pm.
