HOLLYWOOD screen siren, Jeanne Crain, is to take a trip down memory lane next month, with a stage production of the1945 film, State Fair -- in which she played the leading lady.
This legendary film star is looking forward to seeing the oscar-winning movie resurrected on the stage, more than fifty years after the original Rodgers & Hammerstein movie was released.
Lytham Operatic Society is providing the brave cast -- who will be performing to this highly trained ear on the opening night of the show -- Saturday April 14. The performance is to take place in Lytham's Lowther Pavilion.
Tony Wedge, chairman of the operatic society explained: " Miss Crain who now lives in the North West heard that the Lytham Society was to stage the northern premiere stage production of the film that made her internationally famous and immediately got in touch with the society.
"At first Miss Crain wished to be anonymous but after a little gentle persuasion by society officials will now make a formal appearance."
Mr Wedge went on to say that the cast were all very excited at the prospect of performing to Miss Crain as he told the Citizen: "They are a bit nervous but also very excited. They are really looking forward to the performance and there will be several numbers that the audience will immediately recognise straight away."
During her film career Miss Crain made some 41 films the last of which was in 1975. She was nominated twice for Best Actress at the Oscars. Miss Crain has now retired from film and TV work.
Of course Hollywood stars only circulate in the most glamorous company and during her career Miss Crain has appeared with many other Hollywood giants such as Rossano Brazzi, Jean Simmons and Robert Ryan.
The production promises to stay true to the original, musical love story and will be bursting with toe-tapping tunes -- to transport you back to a time of good, clean entertainment and fun.
At 75 years of age, Miss Crain shows she is still a good sport and will be available to sign autographs after the show.
The show is a must for all film and theatre lovers and definitely not to be missed. It will run from April 14 to 21. Tickets are priced from £6. Call 738751 to reserve your ticket now.
