BACUP Borough are desperate to win the Second Division Trophy this season -- so they can dedicate the success to one of the club's unsung heroes.
Secretary Frank Manning has worked on the administrative side of the club for more than 35 years and has never seen the team win honours. So the lads are desperate to beat Daisy Hill in the semi-final of the Trophy at West View tomorrow.
"Frank has dedicated years and years to this club," said manager Brent Peters. "He is like the sole survivor. When everyone else said there was nothing left and that the club was going under he stood by it. He is a loyal servant.
"There is nothing I or the players would like to see more than to win this trophy for him."
The players will be preparing for the game 'as if they are getting ready for a Premier League match', says Peters.
"We are going to do it all right. I will take the players away before the game, either the night before or the morning of the game.
"Like we did in the quarter finals against Warrington, I took them to a hotel before the game and I will be doing the same for this match.
"I will even have a camera crew there filming the build up and the match, as a momento for the players.
"This game is as important as the final so that is how we are treating it."
The last time Bacup won silverware was when they were crowned champions of the Lancashire Combination in 1946/47.
Peters reckons it is time the records were re-written. "Bacup got to the final of this competition in 1991 but were beaten so now is the time to win it. This semi is as important as the final so we are treating it like one. We are doing the build up all right. We will be going to a hotel before the game."
