IT was so nice to read the personal attack on me by Mr Wood in The Citizen (March 22). As is about standard for Liberal Democrats, he has got his facts wrong. Firstly, regarding the Blackpool First Alliance, Mr Wood is fully aware that I resigned from them because of Lib-Dem sympathies of some others and the fact that at that time my son was nearly killed in a traffic accident.
I really hate to disappoint him further, but independent candidates are alive and kicking in Blackpool now and we will continue to fight against the executive-style council.
Unfortunately Mr Wood also failed to grasp the whole point of my writing the original letter. Had 45 Lib Dem peers not voted with New Labour, then every council could have had the committee system. It really is a bit much to support something, then turn it around and blame others.
John Finlay,
Faringdon Avenue, Blackpool.
Editor's note: I have received a number of letters in support of Mr Finlay. This correspondence topic is now closed.
