NICE one, Canadian tourist and ex-Leigh RL player Jim Hindley who branded Leigh and Atherton "disgusting" last week.

Anyone with good eyes can't fail to agree with his opinion on the filth strewn streets.

I'm glad someone else who feels the same is brave enough to speak his mind.

I've got on my high horse slamming the scruffy louts who dump their waste in the streets for years.

They really sicken me.

Jim, who emigrated to Calgary in 1968, said the rubbish and dog dirt around was absolutely awful. Well it is, but what can we do to put a stop to it?

'Big Brother' cameras wouldn't work unless the culprits were known.

On the spot fines might be an idea if there was enough cash in the police or council coffers to employ plain clothed litter busters. Instilling a sense of pride in youngsters might help.

I don't know where my compulsive need to remove it comes from, but I always pick up any litter dropped near my home.

This week I collected a takeaway bag of rubbish and a car fan from down the road and popped them in my bin.

It's no trouble.

If everyone would just pick up a bit the towns would be a lot cleaner.

However, the real answer is not to drop any in the first place!
