MRS Kathleen Bulcock (Letters, March 7) seemed to think that single people got £5 pension increase weekly and married people were being discriminated against because they were married and only got £4 weekly.

Many people could be confused by this and be quite disappointed. A person who has paid a full stamp, or Class A contribution as it is called, will get the full £5 increase.

Married couples will only get £4 weekly because the wife has not paid full stamps and has waited until her husband retires before qualifying for a pension.

I hope this makes this clearer.
