CRAIG Short savoured his first goal in five years as Rovers crushed Burnley at Ewood to complete a memorable derby double.

But the experienced defender then called on his team-mates to make sure all the good work doesn't go to waste after they went second in the table for the first time this season.

"This was a really important game for us but we've got to keep this ball rolling because it would be so disappointing if we slipped up now, especially after the run we've had," said Short.

"February was a big month for us because we established ourselves so we could put in a challenge.

"But all of a sudden we could easily shoot ourselves in the foot.

"At times in the second half we got a bit carried away.

"I know you've a licence to do that when you're 5-0 up.

"I suppose I'm a bit of a misery sometimes, but I like to do it properly.

"And the manager said the same afterwards.

"We've got to stick to the fundamentals and the basics sometimes.

"Our youngsters have got everything else so if they stick to that they'll go a long way."

Short set Rovers on their way to a famous victory when he opened the scoring after 14 minutes and he insists his first goal in five years was no fluke.

"When Dunny hit the first one I was shouting at him to take a touch but he struck it really well, I just stuck my foot out and it flashed into the net.

"And, as for the second, if I'd seen the linesman flagging I probably would have stopped but I didn't, the ref played a good advantage, I'd taken a bad touch but I was fortunate that it took a deflection off Steve and went in.

"That then gave us a lift going into the second half and made us a bit more adventurous."
