It's all about the future: Souness

GRAEME SOUNESS: "I don't think we played much at all in the first half but there were some outstanding performances from some of our players after the break.

"So we'll enjoy this but as from first thing today we'll start preparing for Wednesday.

"This was a really good performance but we've achieved nothing.

"If we don't get promoted this will just be a good result and nothing more.

"It's all about what we are going to do in the future."

MATT JANSEN: "I always enjoy scoring but it's extra special when it's a derby match and it's on Sky.

"We knew we had to score goals to move above Bolton and, thankfully, we got them."

CRAIG SHORT: "As games like that progress, we know it's going to get strung out and players like Matt Jansen and David Dunn are going to come into their own.

"And that's exactly what happened. They seemed to get stronger as the game wore on."

STAN TERNENT: "When we achieved First Division status I knew that somewhere along the line we'd get our backsides tanned from time to time and that's happened today and it happened at Nottingham Forest.

"But overall the players have done really, really well. It's just today is a really bad day, mainly for the supporters. But the truth of the matter is that we're a million miles away, financially, from Blackburn Rovers and that shows on the football field.

"It's frustrating and embarrassing to lose by such a heavy score and perhaps in the manner we did.

"But with all due respect to my players they were beaten by a far superior side so I think if the cap fits you have to wear it.

"The most galling part of it is that it will effect the fans. But I say again, that's how far away we are.

"We haven't played well and they played particularly well, so maybe that's stretching it a little. You are allowed to play as well as the opposition let you."

PAUL COOK: "I think we're all devastated. More than anything we let the supporters down.

"It's a big derby and we've been beaten twice now by Blackburn. You've got to hold your hand up and say they are a very good side. There's no getting away from that but to be beat like that is a bit disappointing."

ANDY PAYTON: "They are a very good side but I don't know, I think we could possibly have given them a bit more of a game. It's a shame for our fans really because they've turned out in numbers again.

"We're very disappointed. We've been hammered. They are a very good side.

"It's very hard with great support again, but we've got to take it on the chin and bounce back."
