BLACKBURN boss Graeme Souness was today sweating on the fitness of three key players as Rovers look to build on the momentum of yesterday's thumping 5-0 derby win over Burnley at Ewood.

Rampant Rovers roared into the top two for the first time this season after clocking up their biggest victory over the Clarets since the season of 1929-30.

But their awesome five-star show came at a price with Damien Duff, Henning Berg and Matt Jansen all nursing knocks following a bruising encounter.

Duff looks the biggest doubt for Wednesday night's home clash with Sheffield United after pulling a muscle.

But Rovers medical staff will be more confident of patching up Jansen and Berg after the key duo left Ewood yesterday suffering from knee and calf problems.

Jansen sank Burnley with a second half goal blitz as Rovers recorded their biggest League victory of the season.

But Souness was keeping his feet firmly on the ground today after enjoying one of his finest hours as Rovers manager.

"I don't want to be a killjoy but the hard work is still in front of us," said Souness.

"The time to celebrate is when we've got enough points to get out of this League and not before.

"We still have 10 games left and we are going to have to win maybe six or seven of them so we're going to get pushed all the way.

"We have a hard game on Wednesday night against a difficult team in Sheffield United.

"So we'll enjoy this but as from today we'll start preparing for Wednesday.

"This was a really good performance but we've achieved nothing.

"If we don't get promoted this will just be a good result and nothing more.

"So it's all about what we are going to do in the future."

Craig Short set the ball rolling for a famous victory with his first goal in five years after 14 minutes.

Then a Steve Davis own goal, a Jansen brace and a late strike from Craig Hignett ensured Rovers completed a memorable double over their fiercest rivals.

"We ended up scoring five goals but I don't think that flattered us because we could have had more," said Souness.

"From where I was, I thought it was two stonewall penalties and, at the end of the day, goal difference might be important to us.

"I know we were winning 4-0 but that doesn't mean you don't give a penalty if it's an obvious one.

"And I felt, looking at it from where I was, that we had two.

"I don't think we played much at all in the first half but there were some outstanding performances from some of our players in the second half."

Now Souness has got his sights set firmly on Wednesday night's clash.

And he is desperate to ensure all yesterday's hard work doesn't go to waste.

"That is a worry but every time we've asked the players to give a little bit extra they've produced it for us.

"The players know now that their destiny is in their own hands and if they allow themselves to slip in terms of desire then it's up to me to get after them.

"But I wouldn't imagine that would be the case.

"We've got a very hard game on Wednesday against Sheffield United. "
