NELSON 0 TETLEY WALKER 1

A STEVE Ellaby goal after 51 minutes secured the points for Tetley Walker in this top of the table clash at Victoria Park and even though Nelson did most of the attacking, their scoring touch seemed to have deserted them.

Carl Howarth should have put the Blues in front after 17 minutes, but his carefully placed shot came back off the post and just four minutes later on loan midfielder Stuart Clitheroe saw his 25 yard piledriver turned over the bar by visiting keeper Lee Medland.

With the scores still level at the interval, Tetley Walker were still very much in the game and when Neal Smith headed the ball against the Nelson crossbar, Steve Ellaby was first to the rebound and drove it low into the net to put his side ahead.

Nelson did everything in their power to try to turn the game around, putting plenty of pressure on the visitors goal and manager John Bailey used all three substitutes but the breakthrough proved elusive.

Mark Robinson roasted defenders with his speed on the right wing, but rarely found a good finish and even in the final seconds of the game when Carl Howarth got his head to a fine cross, the keeper was perfectly positioned to take the ball on the line and dash Nelson's hopes of a point.

Nelson stay top of NWCL Division Two with 62 points from 31 games; two points clear of second placed Tetley Walker
