GREAT HARWOOD 5 GLOSSOP 0
GREAT Harwood finally got the result they have been threatening in recent weeks to boost their chances of avoiding the drop.
Denis Underwood's side rattled in five to record their highest win of the season -- but it could have been seven or eight.
It was hardly a polished performance but the three points moves them to within a point of third-from-bottom Cheadle Town with six games in hand.
Damian McKay opened the scoring when he scrambled the ball home after Glossop failed to clear Richard Fogarty's centre.
And Andy Taylor doubled the lead midway through the half when he rose highest to head the ball home.
Sean Bursnell and Fogarty both had chances to extend the lead before Paul Walker latched on to a poor back pass to make it 3-0 just before the break.
Walker then capitalised on some more poor Glossop defending shortly after the restart when he burst through to grab his second and Great Harwood's fourth.
With the points now secure, Great Harwood attacked at will but continue to spurn chance after chance.
However, they did add one more goal late on when Graham Lightboune tapped home from six yards.
The morale boosting victory could not have been better timed as Great Harwood travel to bottom-of-the-table Leek CSOB on Tuesday for their crunch relegation battle.
Then on Thursday they entertain Mossley at Accrington Stanley's Crown Ground.
Underwood said: "It was not our best performance of the season but we have been threatening to beat someone like that for the past few weeks.
"Since our 7-1 thrashing against Rossendale, I have been happy with the way the side has responded and now we have a great chance of avoiding relegation."
