DISQUALIFIED driver Gary Brookfield claimed he only got back behind the wheel because he was worried about losing his job.
The 19-year-old told Bury magistrates that when his lift did not turn up as arranged he decided to jump in his own car and get himself to work.
Prosecuting, Mr Jonathan Savage said the teenager, of St Andrew's Road, Radcliffe, was seen travelling along Ainsworth Road, Bury, by a patrolling police officer.
His car was stopped and when questioned he gave his details and was arrested.
Mr Savage added that Brookfield was two months into his driving ban when he was caught.
In court the teenager, who pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and having no insurance, was given a 12 months community rehabilitation order and ordered to attend a disqualified drivers course.
In addition he was further disqualified from driving for six months and ordered to pay court costs of £55.
