CONSERVATION volunteers are being offered the chance to work for other organisations during the foot and mouth crisis.
Wildlife reserves have closed and rural projects put on hold since the outbreak of the disease, leaving many volunteers redundant.
The Volunteering Development Project for the Ribble Valley and Hyndburn has made itself available to give information and advice.
It is has already referred many volunteers to organisations such as the Lancashire Wildlife Trust, the National Trust and the RSPB.
Helen Barton-Hanson from the project said: "We do know that conservation is particularly popular as a voluntary activity.
"What we can suggest is for anyone unable to do their usual voluntary work and who has time on their hands, please contact us and we'll do our best to find something else for you to do over the next few weeks.
"To anyone who would like to become a conservation volunteer, please get in touch and we can pass your details on to the appropriate charities - you will be needed after the crisis is over."
Anyone who would like further information contact Helen on 01200 422721.
