PUPILS are being put to the test after staff launched a new initiative to teach them about the big wide world.
The St James Primary School pupils have been challenged to make up their own product companies in time for a special market day on Friday.
As part of the 'World of Work' week, each year group will make up a different company and produce goods to sell to parents, governors, teachers and visitors.
Based around the National Curriculum, they will spend lessons learning how to write press releases, how to advertise their products, share options and other pricing aspects, to make sure they create the most successful item.
They have spent the last few months visiting local firms, including Oswaldtwistle Mills, Darwen Market and Bolton Direct and will now be making products such as sweets, badges, night lights, fridge magnets, book marks and rosettes.
Marketing manager for Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council Louise Woods, said: "The children have really got involved in this project and are looking forward to Friday, when they can see their products on display."
