DETECTIVES today appealed for witnesses after a teenager needed surgery to his face after being attacked with a bottle.
The incident happened on the last day of the Darwen Music Live festival.
The 17-year-old victim was walking along Duckworth Street in the town centre when the offender pushed the glass bottle into his face.
He was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary where he underwent surgery and has since been released.
Police said they have arrested a male for the offence.
Despite the assault, officers who worked during the festival praised the good behaviour of visitors and said they only dealt with a small number of other incidents.
Inspector Tracie O'Gara said: "The festival was busier than last year but all in all it did not pose any major problems.
"It was very much a family affair and the majority of people were very well behaved.
"There were a few arrests for drunken disorderly and four assaults of which one was very serious.
"The young male concerned became involved in an altercation with an offender and the bottle was shoved into his face.
"This was a very serious assault in which the victim needed surgery.
" We are now appealing for witnesses to the incident."
If you have any information about the assault between 5.45pm and 6pm on Bank Holiday Monday telephone Darwen CID on 01254 353842.
