MILLENNIUM Volunteer Farook Esmail, from Blackburn, was one of six young people from across the North West to receive a certificate for completing 200 hours' unpaid work in the community.
The 17-year-old received his award from Brookside actor Leon Lopez, who plays Jerome Johnson in the Channel 4 soap, at the Tate in Liverpool.
Farook, a Blackburn with Darwen Millennium Volunteer, helped children gain the most out of Blackburn's Summer Slam
He also assisted in the Groundworks Millennium Festival and developed a video to encourage young people to volunteer. Nahida Khan, who is also a Millennium Volunteer from Blackburn, took the photograph of Farook receiving his certificate.
Nahida's youth-led photography project has enabled her not only to improve her photography skills but also to capture the activities of people and groups within the community.
Anyone aged 16-24 interested in improving their existing skills or finding and developing skills they never knew they had should ring Sam or Claire on 01254 694113 or call into the Volunteer Bureau at 61-63 James Street, Blackburn.
