By Lesley Richards THE death of dedicated youth worker Janet Burn has stunned colleagues.
Wigan Youth Service workmates were this week mourning the loss of Janet, who collapsed and died suddenly at the age of 45.
Janet, who lived in Culcheth, started work with the council as a part-time youth worker a decade ago.
She previously worked with Warrington Youth Service and as a Scout Leader.
She began working with jobless young people in the Leigh Co-operative Project and in 1995 became a part-time worker with the Lowton and Golborne Youth Work team, operating mainly in the Golborne area.
She ran Golborne Youth Club until it closed in 1999. She set up and worked with the Young Women's Group and was carrying out other detached work in the Golborne area until her death.
She also worked at Golborne High School during lunch times.
In a tribute to Janet, colleague youth worker Julie Hilling said: "Everyone who knew Janet is dreadfully saddened. Both workers in the youth service and the young people among whom she worked for so long and so tirelessly, will miss her more than words can describe.
"Nothing was too much trouble for her in her total dedication to young people. She was a wonderful colleague and friend and will be greatly missed by all of us.
"We offer our deepest sympathy to her husband Geoff and two sons, Andrew and Stephen."
The funeral took place in Culcheth on Wednesday.
