SPECULATION is rife that Watson Steel is to be taken over by another famous local steel fabrication company -- William Hare Ltd.
The BEN revealed exclusively on Saturday that Lostock-based Watson was on the verge of a takeover by an unnamed company.
William Hare was based in Weston Street, Bolton, for many years and moved to Brandlesholme Road, Bury, last year.
Watson Steel has had a long-standing collaborative relationship with William Hare, working on a number of high profile projects.
Watson has figured in a major AMEC restructuring exercise over the past 12 months which cost more than 100 jobs at Lostock and seen the closure of its factory in Bristol.
William Hare employs 700 workers throughout the UK.
Both Watson Steel and William Hare declined to comment.
