POLICE taped off an area near to Booth Court sheltered housing scheme in Daneshouse, Burnley, yesterday afternoon after staff clearing an elderly man's flat found a hand grenade.
A police spokeswoman said: "We evacuated one floor of the accommodation to another part of the building as a precaution and we had made provisions to carry out further evacuations should it prove to be live.
"It turned out the souvenir had been made safe probably by the man who owned it."
