I WAS disappointed to read the letter in the Citizen from someone who suggested that the police should raid the university and the end of term parties. Yes there are some drugs on campus as there are everywhere in society although from my experience, mostly it is just cannabis.
Surely if the law is an ass, it is an ass full stop and people should not suggest the application of a dud law on another section of the community.
There are certainly plenty of future "captains of industry" on campus as there are future teachers, nurses, voluntary workers, activists, politicians, actresses and engineers. Is your correspondent's problem with the future captains of industry or is it students in general? To hazard a guess it is the former as your correspondent is probably a student or recent graduate also.
Yes the patrons at the Warehouse were treated abysmally and should have some form of redress.
The coverage by some of The Citizen's rivals was sensationalist and biased.
If this is an opportunity to discuss the daft laws surrounding drugs in this country well and good, but let's not try and turn this into the martyrdom of an establishment or individual while trying to get more people trapped by laws which the correspondent would surely like to see changed.
